An English couple holiday in Venice to sort out their relationship. There is some friction and distance between them, and we also sense they are being watched. A woman is taken to an island where she gives birth to three sons. A little girl walks along train tracks with an unknown man in 1960. Eight years after a child disappears without a trace, detectives find disturbing clues that indicate that the girl is still alive. Amateur singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, ventriloquists and novelty acts perform for a live audience and a panel of three judges.
